One of the ACCESSORY PLATES in the Pholadacea, that straddles the two valves at the beaks; a transversely elongated accessory plate lying athwart the umbonal region in some Pholadidae; see also: CALLUM; HYPOPLAX; METAPLAX; SIPHONOPLAX.
